Christian outreach VS. Government spending, who is really solving America’s disasters?

Living between Houston and Galveston,TX and having family all along the coast, from here to Florida, the recent Hurricanes have effected everyone I know. When we evacuated from Ike, we expected a foot or two of water, at the most, being it was just a Cat. 2, but the storm was so slow and large, it created tsunami-style waves that literally washed away the entire first floor or my parent’s home and all the neighbors with only one story…their homes were gone. To hear the news, that everything was gone was terrifying. When the guys went back early to clean up, they found neighbor’s couches, and personal items in our yard, and our things in theirs…what was left of them. Our cars had banged up against each other in the garage, until finally drifting out in the flood, to the neighbor’s yard, completely unexpected to have such a flood or we would have driven all the vehicles out. Trying to find personal things was not an option, and watching lost neighbors wonder the yards in hopes of finding anything of meaning was devastating. Many other parts of the country and the world do not understand the lasting effects either, like even now, you can’t go outside barefoot, the glass, dishes, and anything sharp from all the homes, are embedded deep into the grass, along with nails from sloppy reconstruction work. A big problem after the storms are criminals from all over the globe, storm chasers we call them, will travel to any state with a disaster, and charge thousands of dollars for simple tasks to desperate, tired and unaware citizens.
One man tried to charge hundreds of dollars to cut up a tree, already dead, fallen and easy to do ourselves, thinking my dad was an idiot and would agree, well my father was so angry and got so mad, and chewed his butt out so bad, explaining what a sorry thing it was to take advantage of victims like this, that the guy decided to do it for free..LOL. My grandparents live further east on the coast, in Mississippi, and it was Katrina that hit them. It was months before everything was running again, they went without electricity, phones, heat, and both sets of my grandparents had so many trees fallen that you couldn’t even drive up to their homes, you would have to park and climb over trees to get to the houses. It wasn’t long after Hurricane Katrina that my grandfather started to decline, and eventually passed away, I really think a lot of it was stress induced from trying to get back to normal. He was a gardener and loved his gardens more than anything, a hard worker, always outside, and it was all destroyed, It was very heartbreaking for him to handle.
And thanks a lot you fake perverted media, for licking up the legs of Obama, lusting after him, while Ike went uncovered and forgotten, my family was treading over the stench of rotting debri, dead fish and animals, and horror like many Americans have never known! Every time we checked on the News to see if we could go home yet, after Ike, all we saw was Obama’s pathetic self-gloating grin, and the media drooling over him, with a small flash on the bottom in words “If you are an evacuee please call this number…) It was obvious that most Americans cared very little about us, and the Media made sure you all were oblivious to any sort of truth, all of you who voted in a total dumbass, thought nothing of the victims, nothing.
Now enough about personal experiences, I really want to get down to business. I get very angry with our sold out, paid off, stupefied media, that cannot cover an intelligent observation to save their lives; they need to be overcome by citizen journalists, period! I will be focusing mostly on Hurricane Katrina and Ike, sense I have firsthand experience with these tragedies, so that it will be legit. and not just blowing steam.
First, the media only did Bush bashing after Katrina. For one, that makes no sense. The local, state, and national government all failed, all of them. Every single part of the government sat on their complacent butts and stayed nice and cozy while Ministries were first on the scene! Non-profit Christian based ministries that are entirely funded by people who give freely their hard earned dollars. All those taxes that are stolen from us (yes stolen, if most middle income Americans are paying over 30 percent of their income, yes…its stolen) were not used to help the dying, starving, sick and wet people of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Those tax dollars were paying for all those bogus press conferences every one kept watching on the TV, where Louisiana’s crooked governor and New Orleans really, really crooked Mayor were wining and blaming everything on the federal government. Anyone who knows Louisiana, including me, (I was born there and lived in LA for almost 10 years, including New Orleans suburbs, and it has always been a part of our lives, job-wise and recreationally/fishing), knows that LA’s government robs us blind and does nothing, the streets, levies, cities are dirty, rundown etc, and they make tons of money with casinos and the port, but always have scandals hiding millions of dollars. Now those press conferences were a waste of time, and the mayor, governor and all the government sat back on petty pocketed taxes, while people were literally dying in the streets!
It was Life outreach and a few other ministries that hit Katrina head on, already preparing to bring on the goods and supplies, before the storm ever even took place. The same thing happened with Ike. These Christ-loving, dedicated individuals were already waiting in the gears, pacing, with full attendance to jump in as soon as the storm did its damage to its helpless victims. I thank you guys with the bottom of my heart, and every missionary who truly risks your life to save others, and help others in need, without a thought as to what can happen to you. Our government will not do that, they feared getting shot, or getting sick etc…you guys never flinched…. Anyone who says Christians are passive and winy, have never met a mission worker have they?
A must see...
I met this Pastor, we went weeks later, no government help, NOTHING!

Obviously Government is only interested in helping big business and not the people. Sure they make lots of noise but they only help themselves.
I can't imagine going through a hurricane or any kind of natural disaster for that matter. But what you said is true, the first people on the scenes are usually people in Christian ministries. I don't think that most people in the government really personally care about us - it is usually all about them.
I really think you did a wonderful hub. It has a lot of information. I think everyone keeps forgetting it not over for the ones who lived through this.
To you, Happy New year!

Great Hub. Thanks for pointing out the good people who give from their hearts. I already knew about the government failures.
